General Information

  • All HESI exams are administered on campus, in Testing Services
  • A current valid  is required.
  • An eight-digit MCCCD student ID number is required.. If you do not have an MCCCD student ID number, go to  and complete the admissions process.
  • HESI candidates must set up an Evolve Testing Account before taking the exam - detailed instructions will be included on your appointment confirmation. Your Evolve username and password are required on the day of testing. If you have already created an Evolve account, bring that same username and password with you; otherwise, complete this step prior to your appointment.
  • Appointments are required - allow at least one business day to process your request and pay for your exam; requests submitted after hours will be addressed by 5pm the following business day. Specialty exams may take up to two weeks to process; please plan accordingly.

HESI A2

The Evolve Reach (HESI) Admission Assessment Exam (A2) is the Nursing program entrance exam. The HESI A2 is a computer-based test consisting of four modules: Math Skills, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary & General Knowledge, and Grammar. The exam must be completed within 4 hours.   • All four modules must be completed within a single four-hour testing session
  • Personal calculators are not permitted. When allowed, a calculator will appear within the testing program
  • Results are valid for two years
  • Students may retest after a 60-day waiting period. Up to two retests are permitted within one year from the date of the first valid test

Fees

  • The fee is $45 for the HESI A2 Entrance Exam
  • No refunds and costs are subject to change. Payment must be made at least one business day prior to your appointment. Students who have not paid for the exam at least one business day before their appointment may have it canceled without further notice.
  • An eight-digit MCCCD student ID number is required for testing and payment for all students. If you do not have an MCCCD student ID number, please click and complete the applicaiton.

HESI PN: ADN (Advance Placement Exam)

HESI PN exam is a 4-hour timed computer based test designed to assess basic knowledge of practical nursing.  Applicants requesting advanced placement into Block 3 and Block 4 must take this exam for placement.  Applicants must achieve a score of 850 or higher to qualify for placement into Block 3 and Block 4. Applicants may take the HESI PN EXIT exam up to 6 months prior to expected admission.  Scores are accepted only if less than 6 months since testing.  If longer than 6 months, the applicant must retest. Visit the  for admissions requirements. 

  • The HESI PN exam must be completed within a single four-hour testing session
  • Current valid photo ID is required
  • Personal calculators are not permitted. When allowed, a calculator will appear within the testing program
  • Scratch paper and pencils will be provided
  • Results are valid for six months
  • No retesting is permitted to determine placement status. Applicants scoring less than the required score receive admission into Block 2 or equivalent for remediation of practical nursing content. However, applicants must retest if HESI PN EXIT exam was taken more than 6 months prior to admission.
  • Applicants must print the results of the HESI PN exam before leaving the testing center.  Please keep your original copy for your records. Applicants must include a copy of the HESI PN EXIT exam in the .

Preparation

HESI Specialty: Psychiatric Content Specialty Examination

The HESI Specialty Exam Psychology & Mental Health is a Nursing program exam for students who feel they have sufficient behavioral health/psychiatric didactic and clinical content which was completed through coursework and/or work-related experience may request to waive NCE214OP by challenging the HESI Psychiatric Content specialty examination at the college testing centers. In order to waive this required course the applicant must score 850 or higher. In order to challenge the HESI psych specialty exam to waive NCE214OP, the student must obtain permission from the Nursing Director at his or her home campus and the exam will need to be ordered. ¶À¼Ò±¬ÁÏ Center for Nursing Excellence 602-532-8605. The approval process may take up to two weeks.

The exam is computerized and must be completed within a single four-hour testing session. Scratch paper and pencils will be provided.  The score is available immediately and is valid for six months. Students may retest after 6 months.
