Web Design/Development
The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Web Design/Development prepares students to design, create, and administer interactive and professional web sites. Courses focus on "hands-on" experience with web publishing, web graphics preparation, scripting, content management systems and e-commerce solutions. The program provides students a pathway to either develop advanced skills in Web Design or Web Development. Certificates of Completion (CCLs) in Foundational Web Technologies, Web Design and Web Development are also available. Some of these programs are available at select colleges. Details
Students must earn a grade of C or better in all courses within the program.
Courses within any of the following prefixes must be taken within five (5) years prior to completion of the program to be applied toward this award: AIM, B¶À¼Ò±¬ÁÏ, CIS, CLD, CNT, CSC, ITS, and MST.
- Design websites using knowledge of computer information systems, including security, computer concepts, web delivery system architecture, and file management.
- Research, plan, design, develop, test, publish, and maintain websites.
- Create complex websites using current standards in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and Javascript.
- Research and utilize best practices in user interface, user experience, accessibility and search engine optimization to build complex websites.
- Design and implement e-commerce solutions.
- Construct a website using a content management system.
- Apply project management skills to prioritize projects and meet deadlines.
- Adhere to industry accepted professional, legal, and ethical practices.
- Communicate professionally in formal and informal situations to diverse audiences.
- Collaborate with others to address web design challenges.
- Create digital media content using principles of design.
- Select design elements and composition appropriate to the project.
- Manipulate digital media content.
- Design websites using knowledge of programming.
- Develop and deploy secure database solutions that use web-based protocols.
- Implement security solutions to diminish or counter threats against web delivery systems.
- Use server-side scripting languages to create secure, dynamic web pages.

The following is the suggested course sequence by term. Please keep in mind:

- The course sequence is laid out by suggested term and may be affected when students enter the program at different times of the year.
- Initial course placement is determined by current district placement measures and/or completion of 100-200 level course and/or program requirements.
- Degree and transfer seeking students may be required to successfully complete a MCCCD First Year Experience Course (FYE) within the first two semesters at a MCCCD College. Courses include FYE101 and FYE103. Course offerings will vary by college. See an academic, program, or faculty advisor for details.
