Massage Tips

Before the Massage:

  • Try to not wear make-up or excessive perfumes.
  • Talk to your therapist.  Let him/her know what is ailing you and where you need focus.  With proper communication, your therapist can determine the best treatment for you.
  • Try to have eaten at least a half hour prior to receiving treatment. It is not advisable to get a massage on a full stomach, as it is possible to expel your food. Nor will you be relaxed if you are starving.

During the massage:

  • Communicate with your student therapist if you need more or less pressure in your massage, if you are too cold or warm, or if you have any other discomforts or needs.
  • Spending time during the massage recalling all the things you have in life to be grateful for can help one make huge, positive life changes.
  • Often breathing deeply can help you get the most out of a massage. Breathe into every cell of your body.

After the massage:

  • You may be dizzy the moment you get up from the table. Sit for a minute or two to regain your equilibrium.
  • Drink lots of water. This helps the body wash away toxins that you were able to release during the massage.
  • Plan to take the first 20 minutes after a massage lightly. For example, go on a short walk or sit quietly. This allows the massage to settle into the body.
  • After a massage, a nice warm bath is very refreshing.
